What is Neurodivergence

Neurodivergence refers to the idea that neurological differences—such as those associated with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other conditions—are natural variations in the human brain rather than disorders or defects. People who are neurodivergent may think, process information, and experience the world in ways that differ from what is considered “neurotypical” (i.e., the societal standard).

The term highlights that these differences aren’t necessarily problems to be fixed but are part of human diversity. Neurodivergent individuals might have unique strengths and perspectives but may also face challenges, especially in environments that don’t accommodate their ways of thinking.

It’s often framed in the context of social justice and inclusion, promoting acceptance and understanding of these differences rather than focusing on “fixing” or stigmatising them.
