Coaching
Coaching is a collaborative process in which a coach facilitates a safe space for a coachee to enhance their growth personally and professionally. Offering an environment for the coachee to become the master of their own destiny, in an empowering and autonomous way. As a coach I will be there to facilitate the process, but I will not advise, instruct or offer opinion.
This will be a non-judgemental space for self-exploration where the coach will offer empathy and compassion and remain objective. My role as a coach is to help you find the answers. The common misconception of coaching is that I will give you all the answers. The aim in coaching is to help the coachee to make changes in their life and work on a particular area of your life, such as relationships, general wellbeing, confidence, self-esteem, or maybe a career change among many other things. Coaching can provide direction focus and clarity offering self-awareness, and if needed coaching enables you to change your thinking and behaviour patterns that can sometimes leave us feeling stuck. Coaching Encourages motivation by helping the coachee to define their sense of meaning and purpose and offer accountability. Unlocking your true potential to achieve goals . All of which can enhance self-esteem and promote emotional resilience.
What coaching is not?
Coaching is not therapy and does not aim to treat psychological issues. The coachee can agree to disclose details of past or present psychological or psychiatric treatments if they wish. If such issues become salient during the coaching relationship, the coach may recommend referral to an appropriate and qualified specialist. . As a qualified Counsellor If I feel counselling would be a better source of support for you at this time or perhaps in addition to coaching I will sign post you to the best sources of support. In some cases, coaching and therapy can work well alongside one another.
The Sessions
Coaching sessions will be for 1 hour unless agreed otherwise. If you are late in attending, the session will still end at the agreed time, unless agreed otherwise in advance. We will discuss how many sessions and the frequency of them in what we call the discovery session. We can decide between us what feels right for you. This can be an organic process with no rigid session numbers put in place unless that’s what you prefer. As the coach I will be led by the coachee and what they decide. Sessions will be virtual via zoom or face to face.
Session 1 The discovery session
The first coaching session is what we call the discovery session and in my view the most important session. This will set the foundations of our work together. This is the opportunity for you to decide if I am the right coach for you and we are the right fit for each other. A strong and healthy coaching relationship is at the heart of successful coaching. This is a relationship unlike any other, and there will be healthy ethical boundaries in place to keep both you and the coach safe. This is important as throughout the coaching relationship, the coach will engage in direct, personal and often challenging conversations. This is the exploration and finding out session that enables you the coachee to identify what is you want to work with in coaching, why it’s important to you and how you would like coaching to help you. And indeed, establish if you are ready for coaching and if coaching is the right source of support for you right now.
